The English Department presents its eclectic Colloquy series the second Thursday of each month from 11:10 - 12 p.m. in the Centenary Room in Bynum Commons. The lunchtime gatherings feature 15-20 minutes of presentation followed by lively discussion, and all are welcome to grab a lunch and join the conversation! Here is the line-up for 2023-2024:

  • September 14: Dr. Jeff Hendricks will discuss his perspective on the phenomenon of vampires in literature. 
  • October 19: Dr. Matthew Blasi will discuss his process for writing his latest novel, Sweet Muffin Ranch.
  • November 16: Dr. Bellee Jones-Pierce will present her paper, "Forming Beauty in Shake-speares Sonnets."
  • January 25: Reece Maguire and LC Moffit will speak about their edition of Frankenstein with Storyport Press.
  • February 15: English Faculty will present brief analyses and reflections on Shakespeare’s King Lear in celebration of the upcoming Marjorie Lyons Playhouse production starring Don Hooper as Lear. 
  • March 14: English major Jordan Fong will present portions of her honors project.
  • April 11: Dr. Rachel Johnson and Learning Commons Writing Consultants will present their research about peer-led writing instruction.
