Dr. Jefferson Hendricks

Professor of English and Film Studies, Chair of the English Department

Jefferson Hendricks specializes in American Literature and Film Studies, but also teaches courses in Visual Culture, Writing/Editing/Publishing, and The Fantastic: From Greek Mythology to Contemporary Horror. A former Fulbright Professor of American Literature at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, he is the author of four books on the American poet Edwin Rolfe and Rolfe’s involvement fighting fascism in the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s. He also founded (1983) and is the Faculty Director of the Centenary Film Society, the oldest student-run film society in the Deep South. His community involvement includes the Executive Committee of the Robinson Film Center, where he served as the Chair of the Board of Directors its first ten years.

Founder and Faculty Director, Centenary Film Society

The Centenary Film Society specializes in special screenings for Centenary students both on campus and at the Robinson Film Center, ranging from popular genre films (“Halloween Horror!”) to documentaries (“Summer of Soul”) to special interest (“You Have No Idea: One Family’s Journey with Autism”).

Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, Robinson Film Center

The Robinson Film Center – (where the Centenary Film Society pays for Centenary students to get in FREE for films with their Centenary ID) educates, enriches, and entertains through the power of film in downtown Shreveport. RFC exhibits independent, international, and classic cinema in two movie theaters, with a full-service bistro and special events space upstairs.
