Centenary continues the annual fall tradition of offering a limited- edition pair of signature socks to everyone who makes a donation of $50 or more. This year, Jessica Hawkins, associate professor of communication and chair of the department of art and visual culture, graciously allowed her students to design socks for a class project. The winner of the competition got to see their hard work come to fruition!

Tewanna majored in political science with a minor in legal studies and graduated in May 2022. She is currently working to obtain her M. A. in political communications at Emerson College. As an aspiring social advocate who wants to work in the field of diversity and inclusion, Tewanna says, “I am very optimistic, as the world is literally my table and I am trying things out like a buffet!”

Tewanna’s sock design was inspired by the details of polka dots. She believes polka dots stand out and wanted to incorporate the Centenary athletic “C” because, “Centenary is a special institution that stands out from other colleges.” Tewanna also thought it was important to place the word “Forward” on the bottom of the socks as a reference to how Centenary continues to work to build and enhance the student experience. No matter what, we keep moving “Centenary Forward.”

“Centenary is important to me because it significantly contributed to my growth and the opportunities I am experiencing today,” said Tewanna. “It was important for me to be an alumna of a place I am proud to call my alma mater, and Centenary has been that place for me. It will forever be my home and family!”
