Katie Chopin, a Shreveport native, earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics with a minor in business administration at Centenary in 2016. We are excited to welcome Katie back to campus as the Director of Alumni & Family Relations.
After a few years away from Centenary, what was the biggest draw for you to return to campus?
Centenary is one of my favorite places, and I’ve always loved making connections through the college. This position allows me to further my existing Centenary relationships and cultivate new ones as well. I am very much looking forward to connecting with alumni and friends of the college.
As a Centenary alumna, if you could market the college to someone unfamiliar with our campus, what would your selling point be and why?
The small class sizes for sure; they were my favorite part of Centenary as a student. It allowed us to make genuine connections with faculty and fellow students. Some of my favorite classes had fewer than 8 students. I still keep up with many of my professors and fellow classmates today.
What is your favorite memory of your time as a student at Centenary?
It’s hard to pick just one – my module to South Africa, recruitment weeks with Chi Omega, and so many of the small, in-between moments with friends.
What advice would you give to current students?
Don’t think you need to have it all figured out by the time you graduate. You have a lifetime ahead of you to figure it out!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not on campus?
I love walking my dog, Franklin, needlepointing, and unwinding with a glass of wine.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Presenting my undergraduate econometrics research on economic development in South Africa at the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Be kind, always. You never know what someone else is going through so always show compassion.
What is one of your goals for the future of Alumni and Family Relations?
I want to build strong relationships between current students and alumni. Centenary is such a special place, and a strengthened connection has the possibility to be meaningful for students, alumni, and Centenary as a whole.
I would love to hear from you! Feel free to give me a call or send an email.
