Art Stroll to go on, rain or shine; statue to be unveiled

SHREVEPORT, LA — Enjoy an evening of art by attending Centenary College’s Art Stroll on Thursday, April 3, at the Meadows Museum of Art. The event is from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will be free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30.
The Art Stroll explores the heart of Centenary campus’ creatives by sharing visual arts, poetry readings, music, and theatre performances with visitors. Participants will take a leisurely stroll through various campus location, and they will be treated to a unique artistic experience at each stop. In the event of inclement weather, the “stroll” portion of the event will be limited. Centenary shuttles will be used to move people from the Meadows to the Hurley Music Building. The poetry, music, theatre, Pandora Magazine, and Centenary Choir portions of the program will be spread among the Hurley Music Building, Marjorie Lyons Playhouse, and the Anderson Choral Building.
“The arts at Centenary have provided a rich tapestry of experiences throughout the College's history, and I can think of few better ways to celebrate a happy 200th birthday than with a stroll across campus among the many artistic treasures we have planned,” said Dr. Cory Wikan, dean of the Hurley School of Music and associate provost. “From visual art and creative writing to sneak peeks at upcoming music and theatre performances, the evening will culminate with an exciting surprise in the center of campus. It's really an occasion not to be missed.”
In honor of Centenary’s bicentennial, a commissioned statue will be unveiled to commemorate the milestone. Tents will be provided, and refreshments will be in Bynum Commons.
