Centenary athletic director honored by Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourism Bureau
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College and athletic director Marcus Manning were recently honored with a P.R.I.D.E award by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourism Bureau. The Convention and Tourism Bureau recognizes excellence in the area’s tourism and hospitality industry with the annual awards program, which stands for Proud Residents Involved in Developing the Economy.
Manning accepted the Collegiate Sporting Event of the Year award on behalf of Centenary along with co-award winner John Rennie, athletic director at Bossier Parish Community College. Manning and Rennie collaborated to bring the NJCAA Region 14 Men’s and Women’s basketball tournament to the Centenary Gold Dome in March 2019. The tournament brought men’s and women’s teams from 15 junior colleges to the Gold Dome for five days of basketball.
“I’m humbled and honored to receive this award on behalf of Centenary College,” says Manning. “This was a total campus community effort in partnering with the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission and Bossier Parish Community College, and I’m proud we had the opportunity to engage the Shreveport-Bossier community in this fashion.”
Manning accepted the award at the P.R.I.D.E. awards banquet held Thursday, May 9, at Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City. Other award categories include accolades for food service, hospitality, event planning, housekeeping, human resources, and transportation professionals in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
