Centenary College celebrates community philanthropy with Giving Tuesday

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College is proud to be a part of Giving Tuesday, a nationwide, online day of philanthropy. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday follows the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year’s Giving Tuesday observance is Tuesday, December 3.

On Giving Tuesday in 2018, Centenary nearly doubled its fundraising goal of $100,000, raising over $190,000 and setting a new record during the College’s fourth year participating in the national event. For 2019, Centenary has set goals to reach $200,000 and 300 individual donors on Giving Tuesday.

Gifts received on Giving Tuesday will support The Great Teachers and Scholars Fund which provides support for scholarships, faculty and academic programs, and the student experience.

“We are so grateful for all who invest in the life of the College,” says Fred Landry, Vice President for Development. “Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to join with Centenary’s many alumni and friends to register support for the College’s important and historic mission in providing a superior liberal arts education to generations of Ladies and Gents, past, present and future.”

Beginning December 2 at 12:00 a.m., Centenary supporters can visit centenary.edu/GivingTuesday  to make a donation as part of Centenary Giving Tuesday.  You can follow along and see real time as gifts come in from the Centenary family.

Although Giving Tuesday is an online event, Centenary president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will kick off the day of giving with breakfast at Strawn’s Eat Shop across the street from the College. Alumni and community members are invited to join Holoman and other Centenary faculty, staff, and students from 7-9 AM to enjoy a meal in the College’s neighborhood and celebrate Centenary’s contributions to Shreveport-Bossier City.
