Centenary College enjoys community support on Giving Tuesday 2020

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary participated in Giving Tuesday, a global day of online giving, for the sixth consecutive year in 2020. This year’s Giving Tuesday, an online event that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide, was Tuesday, December 1.

This year, the College received over $153,000 in gifts from nearly 100 individual donors.

“We are so thankful for the alumni, parents, and friends who chose to support the College on Giving Tuesday,” said Fred Landry, vice president for development. “Even in the middle of a pandemic, the Centenary community continues to show their support for the College’s historic mission, since 1825, of providing a superior liberal arts education to generations of students."

The global Giving Tuesday effort relies primarily on social media and email appeals encouraging community members to join the online giving effort. This year, Centenary chose to feature faculty and students throughout the day. Centenary community members recorded videos expressing thanks and highlighting how the College has made a difference in their lives, including the way that Centenary has adapted to the ongoing pandemic. The videos were shared through social media and email to reach a wide audience.
