Centenary College names Dr. Latoya Pierce Associate Vice President for Innovative Learning and Inclusive Excellence

Dr. Latoya Pierce has been named Associate Vice President for Innovative Learning and Inclusive Excellence at Centenary College.  Dr. Pierce has more than twenty years of experience in higher education as a faculty member and administrator. In her new role leading Centenary’s Center for Innovative Learning (CIL), she will utilize more than a decade of expertise in online learning. Dr. Pierce’s leadership in this area includes management of a large online graduate program, curriculum development, and teaching online courses at various institutions.

“I am excited about leading the Center for Innovative Learning,” said Dr. Pierce. “The CIL and online learning spaces allow us to implement initiatives that support student access, skill development, and retention. When we find innovative ways to meet student needs and market trends, we stand at a focal point for learning, engagement, and workforce development.”

Centenary expanded its academic offerings by launching The Center for Innovative Learning (CIL), last fall. It offers a catalog of more than 800 online continuing education courses, certificate programs, and professional development opportunities. Some training areas include information technology, medical health professions, business, cybersecurity, legal studies, teacher preparation, and more. In February of this year, Centenary entered into a partnership with Willis Knighton, and the hospital reimburses its employees up to $1,500 annually for completing CIL certificate programs. The CIL’s offerings have also been endorsed by other local businesses, and other partnerships are in development.

“I am so pleased that Dr. Pierce will be assuming this new role,” said Dr. Christopher Holoman, president of Centenary College. “She has been an important leader on campus since she arrived, and we are now able to take advantage of her deep expertise in program design and new course delivery methods as Centenary expands to meet the needs of our students and our community.”

Dr. Pierce earned a Ph.D. in counselor education from the University of New Orleans and also holds a master’s degree in counseling and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University New Orleans. She continues to see clients as a licensed professional counselor.  Prior to arriving at Centenary in January of 2022, Dr. Pierce served as a program director, department chair, executive director, and interim dean for a school of education. She also managed a large online program in Counselor Education and has served on countless institutional committees. To learn more about Dr. Pierce, click here.
