Centenary College’s Veterans Day tribute is Monday, November 11

SHREVEPORT, LA — Local veterans are encouraged to attend Centenary’s annual Veterans Day Tribute on Monday, November 11. Veterans Day has been observed in the United States for more than 100 years, with the first celebration occurring on November 11, 1919.

The solemn ceremony honoring the service and dedication of all veterans will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheatre, the “Shell.” Colonel Michael D. Maginness will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony. The tribute is free and open to the public.

Maginness is the Commander, 2d Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. As Barksdale’s installation commander, he supports Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command, Headquarters Eighth Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command’s 307th Bomb Wing, and 30 tenant units. Prior to assuming these positions, Maginness was the Vice Commander, 5th Bomb Wing and former Commander, 5th Mission Support Group, at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota.

He graduated from Texas A&M University and was commissioned through Officer Training School. He has global experience in the B-52, including multiple deployments to the Pacific, European, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Maginness is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting and National War College. He has commanded at the squadron and group levels to include command of an operational bomb squadron in combat during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and FREEDOM'S SENTINEL.

Centenary’s Veterans Day Tribute includes music from the Centenary College Choir and showcases veterans among Centenary’s student body as well as the faculty and administration.

Guest parking for the Veterans Day Tribute is available in Centenary Lot 13 at the corner of Centenary Boulevard and Rutherford Street. In the event of inclement weather, the tribute will be held in Anderson Auditorium at Centenary’s Hurley School of Music.
