Centenary Percussion Ensemble presents fall concert November 22
SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary Percussion Ensemble will perform its fall concert on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium at Centenary's Hurley School of Music. The concert is free and open to the public.
The six-member ensemble, directed by Chandler Teague, will perform music by renowned jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea, the classic percussion ensemble work October Mountain by Alan Hovahaness, and music by Anthony Cirone, Elliot Del Borgo, Phil Faini. The concert also includes Christmas carols and a surprise or two along the way.
Ensemble director Teague, adjunct professor of percussion at Centenary, serves as the principal timpanist and percussionist of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and Shreveport Opera, principal timpanist of the Longview Symphony, and performs regularly with the Marshall and South Arkansas Symphonies. He can be heard regularly in musical productions at the Emmitt Hook Center and was the long-time principal timpanist of the Breckenridge Music Festival in Colorado. He also teaches percussion at Grambling State University.
Centenary's percussion ensemble consists of a percussionist, vocalists, composers, and other instrumentalists. Participation is open to all Centenary students, subject to an audition.
