Centenary Theatre to perform ‘Last Summer at Bluefish Cove’

The Centenary Theatre Program (CTP) will perform Last Summer at Bluefish Cove at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse April 10 – 13, 2025.

The play by Jane Chambers follows a woman, dissatisfied in her marriage, as she strikes out on her own. She wanders into a group of seven lesbian women beginning their annual beach vacation. The play is one of the first to explore lesbianism in the mainstream. It takes a hard, yet comedic, look at how being a gay woman in 1980 affected relationships, friendships, family, and careers.

Centenary English and Theatre major Emma Greer (’25) will direct. “It’s so rewarding to work on a play that isn’t produced very often,” said Greer. “I’ve done a lot of research into the playwright and her life, as well as queer history in the late 20th century, so that our production can be as accurate and true to the story as possible.”

The performances will be April 10, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m.  There will be a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. on April 13. Tickets may be purchased online. It is $20 for an adult, $15 for seniors/military, and $10 for students.  Centenary faculty, staff, and students may attend for free with a coupon code.

“My cast is fantastic, and they’re all working so hard to really bring this show to life,” said Greer. “There are so many details in this show that I can’t wait for audiences to see, from the beautiful set and light design to the amazing work the cast has put into it.”

Last Summer at Bluefish Cove is the CTP’s final performance for the 2024-2025 year.
