Centenary’s Magale Library exhibits works by Shreveport Pastel Society

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Magale Library at Centenary College opened a new exhibit this week featuring works by the Shreveport Pastel Society. The exhibit, located in the Magale lobby, will run through February 27. An opening reception will be held Saturday, January 7 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

The Shreveport Pastel Society was formed in 2005 following a workshop with internationally known pastelist Alan Flattmann. Attendees were so taken with the techniques and possibilities of the soft pastel medium that they decided to form a group that would promote pastel painting and exhibit their work. Pastel Society shows are not competitions, rather an invitation to members to experiment with the various surfaces and types of pastels that range from hard pastel pencils to the very softest, most luscious sticks of pure pigment. Through the years, the skill level and creativity of their members has improved and they look forward to exhibiting their work every year.

The Shreveport Pastel Society currently has 17 active and 8 inactive members. New members are juried into the group through a review of digital images that they submit. Those interested in becoming members may contact Barbara Rushing at brushing3@comcast.net.
